I'm looking at Azure Bastion as a way to replace a jumpbox for my organization. I've got it tested, and what I was hoping to do next was publish it as an app for users. That way they would log in via portal.office.com or other normal logins with their company AD account (synced to AAD, with Duo MFA) and they'd then be able to just click on "Bastion Jumpbox" or whatever the name is. That way we'd be able to just allow them to access the Bastion instance in question (or even just Bastion in genearl, should we set it up for different private IPs) and not have to have them navigate through the Portal. Shareable Link is out since that doesn't require a user to authenticate via AD and Duo - it just allows anyone with the URL to attempt to log in. If we have to use the portal, it's not the end of the world - I can just tightly scope their roles to the Bastion service as needed - but this would be a nice alternative to the portal if possible. Is this doable? submitted by /u/MohnJaddenPowers [link] [comments]
Hello, I would like to ask you about the reserved instances and the ratio of a typical VM family to validate if my understanding is correct. I have to do the VMs reservation renewal. In the past, instances were reserved bit by bit. So we could have for example 12 reservations of the same type of machine. Here is my example: We are using 60 X D4ds_v5. Which gives a ratio of 120. The total reservation cost over 3 years is $4426.2 Instead, if I decide to reserve 2 X D96ds_v5 + 1X D48ds_v5 which gives a ratio of 120. The total cost of reservation over 3 years is $3761.52 I therefore win to choose the 2nd option to use for the 60 X D4ds_v5? Let's say in the future, I have to add for example 5 other D4ds_v5, I will have to pay the pay-as-you-go price, because I am above my initial ratio? Until I reserve more instances ? Is my understanding correct? Thanks a lot! submitted by /u/kast0r_ [link] [comments]
Hello, we converted all our existing devices from Azure AD Registered to Hybrid Azure AD Joined to start utilizing conditional access to harden our security yesterday afternoon. Some users and myself have noticed our Outlook asking to reauthenticate with MFA. I'm assuming this is normal because I noticed it created duplicate devices in our Azure AD for the Hybrid state. Was wondering if this is expected and if I also need to clean the old 'Azure AD Registered' devices or let the sync play it through. submitted by /u/callme_e [link] [comments]
We have a B2B product that we're launching in Azure. In most cases, customers will be bringing an ExpressRoute into their own subscriptions and then using one of several options to connect to our subscription from there. I'd like to get an ExpressRoute for us to experiment with various scenarios and to test scenarios that customers may propose to us. This "lab environment" would be completely isolated from our internal network, etc. - and would basically just have whatever hardware we need for the network connection along with a single server that we'll run ESX or Proxmox or something on to host transient VMs. I really don't care much about bandwidth for this purpose as we'll mostly be just doing connection tests and hitting "Welcome to nginx!" style pages. I started calling local providers to see what it would take to bring a line in with an ER, but then I got to thinking that I really don't care where this thing terminates. Is anyone aware of a facility that could provide ER access and host a few VM's at a reasonable cost? Or should I just stick with bringing something into our building? submitted by /u/keschrich [link] [comments]
Has anyone used cloudacademy.com or acloudguru.com ? If so, how were they? I'm trying to get a few Azure certifications and wanted to see if these sites or anything similar are worth it. Thank you. submitted by /u/Environmental_Ad6826 [link] [comments]
For network traffic initiated from an Azure owned IP destined to another Azure owned IP, will Azure guarantee that this traffic will only be routed through the MS Global Network? Hello! Im a beginner tasked with updating my companies email signature for all staff. I know there is a way to do this in Azure or powershell but am not finding the correct place or code to do this. Looking for advice, thank you! submitted by /u/KayCharLaurel [link] [comments]
I've been in the admin game for a while now so I didn't need that much prep. Probably didn't really need this cert, but I'm in the gotta get 'em all mindset for now. It wasn't a difficult one, relative to AZ-104. I saw that I passed but I didn't pay attention to my score. The celebratory email hasn't hit my junk folder yet. For prep, I used John Savill's sc-900 exam cram https://youtu.be/Bz-8jM3jg-8 and Whizlabs practice labs https://www.whizlabs.com/microsoft-security-compliance-identity-fundamentals-sc-900-certification/ Next up for me is AZ-500 submitted by /u/workacct0001 [link] [comments]
Im coding in python, and this is what i have so far. Entity = table_client.query_entities(my_filter) I can sort this after i have queried the entire table, but i would like to only query the first row. I looked through documentation, but i could not find anything. Any ideas? submitted by /u/Rollingf4st [link] [comments]
Anyone else notice or get affected by the issue with Front Door in North Central US yesterday? There were 0 service alerts. After hours of troubleshooting extreme slowness (multiple minute wait times) in our web apps Azure support finally came back and said there was a massive hardware failure in the Chicago PoP. The slowness was due to Front Door services being auto failed over to Memphis which then overloaded that PoP. Product team started to manually balance workloads and eventually failed the services back to the secondary Chicago PoP (after 7 hours from ticket start). Not quite sure why services failed to anything but the secondary in the same region but looking forward to that RCA submitted by /u/yay_cloud [link] [comments]
I have been given a blackbox Container image with some "secret sauce" code (hence it is a blackbox to me) that needs to be hosted in Azure. The image stands up a web endpoint, but we are told that the web framework itself cannot handle concurrent requests (testing confirms this). The endpoint is to be consumed by a WebApp which WILL have concurrent users. As such, I would like to put this blackbox image into something serverless that can spin up 1 container instance/HTTP endpoint per incoming request. The response time is slow enough that I'm not very concerned about spin-up costs. However, I'm beginning to feel out of luck... Serverless Functions don't support Docker images. ACI/K8 will need manual scaling. Batch will either need manual scaling or will delay requests with its task queue (and in any event, VMs are pricey for this). Is there a type of resource or configuration that I'm failing to consider? Our worst-case scenario is to try to request that this blackbox container be refactored so that we can get the results with a "docker run <input>" command, rather than asynchronously spinning up an endpoint and calling it. TIA submitted by /u/ButtonsGalore [link] [comments]
I'm looking to get into data engineering (DP-203) but would like to understand the basics of Azure first. Assuming I pass AZ-900 to begin, I am then considering the following exams - which one would help me understand Azure as a whole or best compliment the data engineering side of things? AZ 104: Azure Admin AZ 140: Configuring and Operating Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop AZ 600: Configuring and Operating a Hybrid Cloud with Microsoft Azure Stack Hub submitted by /u/LieutenantDaredevil [link] [comments]
Took me about 6 week to pass with a score of 820. Went straight to studying for it after passing az-900 mid December since i wanted to get this done before uni break ends. Honestly, the test wasn't difficult but it is at the same time since the topic is broad enough that you are guaranteed to encounter your weak areas. Like in 10 questions, i got 3 related to aks that are multi points which made the rest of the test really uncomfortable as that threw me off enough that i was like 100% sure that I'm not passing. From what i remember, i say around 25% of questions are related to networking. Sounds low but most of them were multi points. Although it was still my weakest section according to the report which was super disappointing as it's the section that i highly prioritised. Resources that i used are MS Learn, John Savill, Tutorial Dojo, AZ-104 labs and Cloud Resume Challenge. Read ms learn twice but didn't do any of the sandbox but it is the most helpful resource. John Savill played during gym time, especially the new networking masterclass that he had done. Tutorial dojo was used sparingly, every 4-5 days as i didnt want to get used to it and keep my expectation of the real exam low. The az-104 github labs are really good at showing you how to do certain things and will greatly help you on questions that requires multiple answers. Lastly, i started doing the cloud resume challenge just before i did the az-900 exam and it did help in some networking and powershell questions, specifically dns zones and a question regarding arm templates which you can interpret at some capacity using your knowledge about bicep. submitted by /u/Vanilla_177013 [link] [comments]
Hey Everyone, Please go easy on me I'm relatively new to this sysadmin thing. I have an older windows 2012 r2 server that runs an azure AD connector in an environment I manage. I've read the documentation on MSFT's website and thought the "swing migration" was the best fit. I've configured my new controller in staging mode and let it get an initial sync. I assumed that success would look like zeroes across the board... no changes, updates, or adds. But the results have shown quite the opposite. It looks like it's trying to add the entire OU I specified to sync. I was thinking since all the CNs matched it would see that and not consider it an "add". See the image for the results: https://imgur.com/a/Rszyjpp I also know if this gets messed up my Azure AD tenant will be overwritten. Any advice to avoid that outcome is greatly appreciated! submitted by /u/krc92001 [link] [comments]
Anyone using azure firewall premium? Currently building out our hub and debating on azure firewall premium or the Palo Alto vm series byol model. Hi, Does anyone know an approach I can use to enumerate all the HTTP Triggers in use across all the Logic Apps in my tenant? As a potential security risk I just want to keep track of any that get added to the tenant by users, so I can make sure they are following our best practices for locking them down. Sure there must be an api I can call with a logic app every day to check. Thank you! submitted by /u/DoctorRaulDuke [link] [comments]
Can't get my head round this one, so any help would be appreciated! Here's the scenario: User clicks link to open a PowerPoint doc that an external person has shared (and specified access for the user) User is asked to sign in via the browser User enters their credentials and receives error "Your account is locked. Contact your support person to unlock it, then try again" In the AD sign-in log error code is 500571 The guest user object in Active Directory backing this account has been disabled. An admin can re-enable this account through Powershell: https://docs.microsoft.com/powershell/module/addsadministration/enable-adaccount?view=win10-ps Here's the thing - the user is NOT a guest; in fact they have admin rights. Also, their account is NOT actually blocked. So they can't access the shared file but everything else is working for them in the 365 environment. Any idea what's going on / how to resolve? submitted by /u/labstraction [link] [comments]

Was thinking it would be cool to build various topic extraction models to parse the 5-Ws from article text - value prop is to simplify distill EVERY news article to a few bullets for easy consumption. We already have a near infinite data to test on and enough compute from a NLP standpoint. Definitely considering the bias aspect of all this but someone out there (not the media) would be interested in this from a product angle, right? Any thoughts on this? And anyone want to hop on this with me? submitted by /u/JasonSuave [link] [comments]
Hey ML Reddit! I just shipped a project I’ve been working on called Maroofy: https://maroofy.com You can search for any song, and it’ll use the song’s audio to find other similar-sounding music. Demo: https://twitter.com/subby_tech/status/1621293770779287554 How does it work? I’ve indexed ~120M+ songs from the iTunes catalog with a custom AI audio model that I built for understanding music. My model analyzes raw music audio as input and produces embedding vectors as output. I then store the embedding vectors for all songs into a vector database, and use semantic search to find similar music! Here are some examples you can try: Fetish (Selena Gomez feat. Gucci Mane) — https://maroofy.com/songs/1563859943 The Medallion Calls (Pirates of the Caribbean) — https://maroofy.com/songs/1440649752 Hope you like it! This is an early work in progress, so would love to hear any questions/feedback/comments! 😀 submitted by /u/BullyMaguireJr [link] [comments]

We can change the colors of some texts and backgrounds on a SHAP summary plot by editing matplotlib's matplotlibrc file. We can also edit the plotting colors by passing a colormap but we're unable to change the colors of the "feature names" at the left side of the SHAP summary plot (beeswarm) -and the color of the y axis- by editing matplotlib's matplotlibrc file. Has anyone worked around this? Is there a way that we could overcome this restriction? submitted by /u/lekayra [link] [comments]

I began exploring MLP-Mixer[1,2] on Graph Neural Networks in October 2021 and completed my implementation the ZINC dataset in November of the same year. My implementation is available on Github, but I was unable to fully conduct the experiments due to lack of computational resources. In December 2022, a group of leading figures in the field, including Xiaoxin He, Bryan Hooi, Thomas Laurent, Adam Perold, Yann Lecun, and Xavier Bresson, published a paper titled "A Generalization of ViT/MLP-Mixer to Graphs". Although I am pleased to be working alongside these prominent researchers on the application of MLP-Mixers to Graphs, I regret that I was unable to finish my experiments. Encouraged by my friends and advisors, I decided to make my work public by publishing it on arxiv. The paper and code can be found as the following: Paper/report: https://arxiv.org/abs/2301.12493 Github: https://github.com/asarigun/GraphMixerNetworks I used PNA as my baseline and did not utilize patches in my study, unlike the other study. Hello everyone, I'm interested in diving into the field of computer vision and I recently came across the concept of Vision Transformer (ViT). I want to understand this concept in depth but I'm not sure what prerequisites I need to have in order to grasp the concept fully. Do I need to have a strong background in Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Transformer (Attention Is All You Need) to understand ViT, or can I get by just knowing the basics of deep learning and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs)? I would really appreciate if someone could shed some light on this and provide some guidance. Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/SAbdusSamad [link] [comments]
550K sentences in 5 European languages augmented with noise for training and evaluating spell correction tools or machine learning models. We have constructed our dataset to cover representatives from the language families used across Europe. Germanic - English, German; Romance - French; Slavic - Bulgarian; Turkic - Turkish; Use case example: Apply language models or other techniques to compare the sentence pairs and reconstruct the original sentences from the augmented ones. You can use a single multilingual solution to solve the challenge or employ multiple models/techniques for the separate languages. Per-word dictionary lookup is also an option. I'm guessing i probably am not the first person who has wanted to work with youtube data so I'm hoping here is a good place to ask So i had an idea to make a neural network that would go through your youtube history and then train a neural network on it. Afterwards if there is a way to access all of youtube by id in a way that you can check every video then you could store all of the id for videos you might like and then use a youtube downloader like youtube-dl to download a certain amount. Was just a dumb idea i had but now i want to actually try it but I'm unsure if I'll actually be able to get the data i need to do it submitted by /u/loonathefloofyfox [link] [comments]

Dear r/MachineLearning, Hello everyone! I hope you are all out there having fun, training deep nets and generating fun story-telling with stable-diffusion! 🙂 I am here today to share with you all a minimal ml project template that I've recently built, which can be found at https://github.com/AntreasAntoniou/minimal-ml-template/. I became increasingly annoyed at how there weren't any repos out there that provided stateless ML project templates, which are absolutely necessary when using kubernetes on spot instances, and I decided to build one. By stateless I mean a repo that by default can store model weights in a remote repo and then download them to continue from where it left off if the previous machine dies. The result was this repository. The repo remains minimal and extremely readable, all while being packed with a cool stack that I use every day. I'd love to get some feedback, so have a look and let me know. Regards, Antreas P.S. A short summary straight from the Github Repo: This repo implements a minimal machine learning template, that is fully featured for most of the things a machine learning project might need. The most important parts that set this repo apart from the rest are: It is stateless. Any given experiment ran using this template, will, automatically and periodically stores the model weights and configuration to HuggingFace Hub and wandb respectively. As a result, if your machine dies or job exits, and you resume on another machine, the code will automatically locate and download the previous history and continue from where it left off. This makes this repo very useful when using spot instances, or using schedulers like slurm and kubernetes. It provides support for all the latest and greatest GPU and TPU optimization and scaling algorithms through HuggingFace Accelerate. It provides mature configuration support via Hydra-Zen and automates configuration generation via decorators implemented in this repo. It has a minimal callback based boilerplate that allows a user to easily inject any functionality at predefined places in the system without spagettifying the code. It uses HuggingFace Models and Datasets to streamline building/loading of models, and datasets, but is also not forcing you to use those, allowing for very easy injection of any models and datasets you care about, assuming you use models implemented under PyTorch's nn.Module and Dataset classes. It provides plug and play functionality that allows easy hyperparameter search on Kubernetes clusters using BWatchCompute and some readily available scripts and yaml templates. The Software Stack This machine learning project template is built using the following software stack: 1. Deep Learning Framework: PyTorch 2. Dataset storage and retrieval: Huggingface Datasets 3. Model storage and retrieval Huggingface Hub, and HuggingFace Models 4. GPU/TPU/CPU Optimization and Scaling up options library: Huggingface Accelerate 5. Experiment configuration + command line argument parsing: Hydra-zen 6. Experiment tracking: Weights and Biases 7. Hi friends! I ran into this problem enough times at my last few jobs that I built a tool to solve it. I spent many hours building Docker containers for my Python functions, as many of the data science modules required building C libraries (since they significantly speed up compute-intensive routines, such as math calculations). Deploying the containers to AWS Lambda or Fargate (if the processes required more CPU or memory or were >15 minutes) and wiring functions to talk to each other using queues, databases, and blob storage made iterating on the actual code, which wasn't even that complex most of the time, slow. I made cakework https://github.com/usecakework/cakework, a platform that lets you spin up your Python functions as serverless, production-scale backends with a single command. Using the client SDK, you submit requests, check status, and get results. You can also specify the amount of CPU (up to 16 cores) and memory (up to 128GB) for each individual request, which is helpful when your data size and complexity varies across different requests. A common pattern that I built cakework for is doing file processing for ML: - ingest data from some source daily, or in response to an external event (data written to blob storage) - run my function (often using pandas/numpy/scipy) - write results to storage, update database - track failures and re-run/fix It's open source <3. Here are some fun examples to get you started: https://docs.cakework.com/examples Would love to hear your thoughts! submitted by /u/seattleite849 [link] [comments]

Are there tools or techniques that permit you to joint query using more than one query vector? Use case: iterative ANN search refinement, where I start with a seed vector, select matches, and re-query with more examples to improve the search results. I tried doing this with FAISS, but it performs a "batch query" that returns a separate set of results for each query vector (not a joint query). submitted by /u/mostlyhydrogen [link] [comments]
For ImageNet classification, there are two common ways of normalizing the input images: - Normalize to [-1, 1] using an affine transformation (2*(x/255) - 1). - Normalize using ImageNet mean = (0.485, 0.456, 0.406) and std = (0.229, 0.224, 0.225). I observe that the first one is more common in TensorFlow codebases (including Jax models with TensorFlow data processing, e.g. the official Vision Transformers code), whereas the second is ubiquitous in PyTorch codebases. I tried to find empirical comparisons of the two, but there doesn't seem to be any. Which one is better in your opinion? I guess the performance shouldn't be too different, but still it's interesting to hear your experience. submitted by /u/netw0rkf10w [link] [comments]

Aligned LLMs such as InstructGPT and ChatGPT are trained via supervised fine-tuning after the initial self-supervised pretraining. Then, the researchers train a reward model on responses ranked by humans. When I understand correctly, they let the LLM generate responses that humans have to rank on a scale from 1-5. Then, they train a reward model (I suppose in supervised fashion?) on these ranked outputs. Once that's done, they use reinforcement learning (RL) with proximal policy optimization (PPO) to update the LLM. My question is why they use RL with PPO for this last step? Why don't they fine-tune the LLM using regular supervised learning, whereas the human-ranked outputs represent the labels. Since these are labels in the range 1-5, this could be a ranking or ordinal regression loss for supervised learning. submitted by /u/alpha-meta [link] [comments]
I wanted to use the Learnable Trainangulation model in a commercial project. The source code itself is under MIT licensing. However, the dataset they have used is Human3.6M, which states that the license is "FREE OF CHARGE FOR ACADEMIC USE ONLY". Yet, recent court rulings (in the US) state that models can use copyrighted data during training, and the results are no longer bound by that copyright (e.g. Google Books). Does the same apply here? submitted by /u/mfarahmand98 [link] [comments]
I've recently started reading up on classical ML and I got a question about K-Means. More concretely, I am confused about the uniqueness of the global optimal solution of K-Means's cost function. Let's state the problem formally below, extracted from Bishop's Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning book, exercise 9.1. Consider the 𝐾-means algorithm discussed in Section 9.1. Show that as a consequence of there being a finite number of possible assignments for the set of discrete indicator variables 𝑟𝑛𝑘, and that for each such assignment there is a unique optimum for the 𝝁𝑘, the K-means algorithm must converge after a finite number of iterations. I made an answer [here](https://stats.stackexchange.com/questions/603327/question-on-the-proof-of-convergence-of-k-means) detailing the proof of why it does converge in Lloyd's algorithm, but I think I still do not understand why Lloyd's do not converge to a global minimum, which mathematical theorem/understanding am I missing here? I think that optimizing both the assignments and the centroids of K-Means at the same time is non-convex and hence there are many local minimums, we can use brute force to search for the global minimum but of course it is exponential to the number of data points. On the other hand, Lloyd optimizes it (greedily) alternatively, and hence you will find the cost functions' local minima (guaranteed)? submitted by /u/healthymonkey100 [link] [comments]

I'm using Huggingface's transformers regularly for experimentations, but I plan to deploy some of the models to iOS. I have found ml-ane-transformers repo from Apple, which shows how transformers can be rewritten to have much better performance on Apple's devices. There's an example of DistilBERT implemented in that optimized way. As I plan to deploy transformers to iOS, I started thinking about this. I'm hoping some already have experience about this, so we can discuss: Has anyone tried this themselves? Do they actually see the improvements in performance on iOS? I'm using Huggingface's transformer models in my experiments. How much work do you think there is to rewrite model in this optimized way? It's very difficult to train transformers from scratch (especially if they're big 🙂 ), so I'm fine-tuning on top of pre-trained models on Huggingface. Is it possible to use weights from pretrained Huggingface models with the Apple's reference code? How difficult is it? submitted by /u/alkibijad [link] [comments]

https://twitter.com/eric_wallace_/status/1620449934863642624?s=46&t=GVukPDI7944N8-waYE5qcw Extracting training data from diffusion models is possible by following, more or less, these steps: Compute CLIP embeddings for the images in a training dataset. Perform an all-pairs comparison and mark the pairs with l2 distance smaller than some threshold as near duplicates Use the prompts for training samples marked as near duplicates to generate N synthetic samples with the trained model Compute the all-pairs l2 distance between the embeddings of generated samples for a given training prompt. Build a graph where the nodes are generated samples and an edge exists if the l2 distance is less than some threshold. If the largest clique in the resulting graph is of size 10, then the training sample is considered to be memorized. Visually inspect the results to determine if the samples considered to be memorized are similar to the training data samples. With this method, the authors were able to find samples from Stable Diffusion and Imagen corresponding to copyrighted training images. submitted by /u/pm_me_your_pay_slips [link] [comments]

Understand bastion hosts, and which subnet one might live on. Bastion hosts are instances that sit within your public subnet and are typically accessed using SSH or RDP. Once remote connectivity has been established with the bastion host, it then acts as a ‘jump’ server, allowing you to use SSH or RDP to login to other instances (within private subnets) deeper within your network. When properly configured through the use of security groups and Network ACLs, the bastion essentially acts as a bridge to your private instances via the Internet.” Bastion Hosts

Know how to enable cross-account access with IAM: To delegate permission to access a resource, you create an IAM role that has two policies attached. The permissions policy grants the user of the role the needed permissions to carry out the desired tasks on the resource. The trust policy specifies which trusted accounts are allowed to grant its users permissions to assume the role. The trust policy on the role in the trusting account is one-half of the permissions. The other half is a permissions policy attached to the user in the trusted account that allows that user to switch to, or assume the role. Enable cross-account access with IAM

Additional EIPs are only available in Amazon VPC. Know how you would go about making changes to an Auto Scaling group, fully understanding what you can and can’t change. “You can only specify one launch configuration for an Auto Scaling group at a time, and you can’t modify a launch configuration after you’ve created it. Therefore, if you want to change the launch configuration for your Auto Scaling group, you must create a launch configuration and then update your Auto Scaling group with the new launch configuration. When you change the launch configuration for your Auto Scaling group, any new instances are launched using the new configuration parameters, but existing instances are not affected. #AWS Make Change to Auto Scaling group

Know how DynamoDB (durable, and you can pay for strong consistency), Elasticache (great for speed, not so durable), and S3 (eventual consistency results in lower latency) compare to each other in terms of durability and low latency. #AWS DynamoDB consistency

Know the difference between bucket policies, IAM policies, and ACLs for use with S3, and examples of when you would use each. “With IAM policies, companies can grant IAM users fine-grained control to their Amazon S3 bucket or objects while also retaining full control over everything the users do. With bucket policies, companies can define rules which apply broadly across all requests to their Amazon S3 resources, such as granting write privileges to a subset of Amazon S3 resources. Customers can also restrict access based on an aspect of the request, such as HTTP referrer and IP address. With ACLs, customers can grant specific permissions (i.e. READ, WRITE, FULL_CONTROL) to specific users for an individual bucket or object. #AWS Difference between bucket policies
Understand how you can use ELB cross-zone load balancing to ensure even distribution of traffic to EC2 instances in multiple AZs registered with a load balancer. #AWS ELB cross-zone load balancing
Spot instances are good for cost optimization, even if it seems you might need to fall back to On-Demand instances if you wind up getting kicked off them and the timeline grows tighter. The primary (but still not only) factor seems to be whether you can gracefully handle instances that die on you–which is pretty much how you should always design everything, anyway! #AWS Spot instances
22
The term “use case” is not the same as “function” or “capability”. A use case is something that your app/system will need to accomplish, not just behaviour that you will get from that service. In particular, a use case doesn’t require that the service be a 100% turnkey solution for that situation, just that the service plays a valuable role in enabling it. #AWS use case
23
There might be extra, unnecessary information in some of the questions (red herrings), so try not to get thrown off by them. Understand what services can and can’t do, but don’t ignore “obvious”-but-still-correct answers in favour of super-tricky ones. #AWS Exam Answers: Distractors

If you don’t know what they’re trying to ask, in a question, just move on and come back to it later (by using the helpful “mark this question” feature in the exam tool). You could easily spend way more time than you should on a single confusing question if you don’t triage and move on. #AWS Exa: Skip Questions that are vague and come back to them later

The Udemy practice test interface is good that it pinpoints your weak areas, so what I did was to re-watch all the videos that I got the wrong answers. Since I was able to gauge my exam readiness, I decided to reschedule my exam for 2 more weeks, to help me focus on completing the practice tests. #AWS Udemy

41
Start off watching Ryan’s videos. Try and completely focus on the hands on. Take your time to understand what you are trying to learn and achieve in those LAB Sessions. #AWS Exam Prep Video
42
Do not rush into completing the videos. Take your time and hone the basics. Focus and spend a lot of time for the back bone of AWS infrastructure – Compute/EC2 section, Storage (S3/EBS/EFS), Networking (Route 53/Load Balancers), RDS, VPC, Route 3. These sections are vast, with lot of concepts to go over and have loads to learn. Trust me you will need to thoroughly understand each one of them to ensure you pass the certification comfortably. #AWS Exam Prep Video
43
Make sure you go through resources section and also AWS documentation for each components. Go over FAQs. If you have a question, please post it in the community. Trust me, each answer here helps you understand more about AWS. #AWS Faqs
44
Like any other product/service, each AWS offering has a different flavor. I will take an example of EC2 (Spot/Reserved/Dedicated/On Demand etc.). Make sure you understand what they are, what are the pros/cons of each of these flavors. Applies for all other offerings too. #AWS Services
45
Ensure to attend all quizzes after each section. Please do not treat these quizzes as your practice exams. These quizzes are designed to mostly test your knowledge on the section you just finished. The exam itself is designed to test you with scenarios and questions, where in you will need to recall and apply your knowledge of different AWS technologies/services you learn over multiple lectures. #AWS Services
46
I, personally, do not recommend to attempt a practice exam or simulator exam until you have done all of the above. It was a little overwhelming for me. I had thoroughly gone over the videos. And understood the concepts pretty well, but once I opened exam simulator I felt the questions were pretty difficult. I also had a feeling that videos do not cover lot of topics. But later I realized, given the vastness of AWS Services and offerings it is really difficult to encompass all these services and their details in the course content. The fact that these services keep changing so often, does not help #AWS Services
47
Go back and make a note of all topics, that you felt were unfamiliar for you. Go through the resources section and fiund links to AWS documentation. After going over them, you shoud gain at least 5-10% more knowledge on AWS. Have expectations from the online courses as a way to get thorough understanding of basics and strong foundations for your AWS knowledge. But once you are done with videos. Make sure you spend a lot of time on AWS documentation and FAQs. There are many many topics/sub topics which may not be covered in the course and you would need to know, atleast their basic functionalities, to do well in the exam. #AWS Services
48
Once you start taking practice exams, it may seem really difficult at the beginning. So, please do not panic if you find the questions complicated or difficult. IMO they are designed or put in a way to sound complicated but they are not. Be calm and read questions very carefully. In my observation, many questions have lot of information which sometimes is not relevant to the solution you are expected to provide. Read the question slowly and read it again until you understand what is expected out of it. #AWS Services
49
With each practice exam you will come across topics that you may need to scale your knowledge on or learn them from scratch. #AWS Services
50
With each test and the subsequent revision, you will surely feel more confident. There are 130 mins for questions. 2 mins for each question which is plenty of time. At least take 8-10 practice tests. The ones on udemy/tutorialdojo are really good. If you are a acloudguru member. The exam simulator is really good. Manage your time well. Keep patience. I saw someone mention in one of the discussions that do not under estimate the mental focus/strength needed to sit through 130 mins solving these questions. And it is really true. Do not give away or waste any of those precious 130 mins. While answering flag/mark questions you think you are not completely sure. My advice is, even if you finish early, spend your time reviewing the answers. I could review 40 of my answers at the end of test. And I at least rectified 3 of them (which is 4-5% of total score, I think) So in short – Put a lot of focus on making your foundations strong. Make sure you go through AWS Documentation and FAQs. Try and envision how all of the AWS components can fit together and provide an optimal solution. Keep calm. This video gives outline about exam, must watch before or after Ryan’s course.#AWS Services

1-AWS Route 53 Route 53 is a domain name system service by AWS. When a Disaster does occur , it can be easy to switch to secondary sites using the Route53 service. Amazon Route 53 is a highly available and scalable cloud Domain Name System (DNS) web service. It is designed to give developers and businesses an extremely reliable and cost effective way to route end users to Internet applications by translating names like www.example.com into the numeric IP addresses like 192.0.2.1 that computers use to connect to each other. Amazon Route 53 is fully compliant with IPv6 as well.-
AWS CloudWatch
CloudWatch is used to collect, view, and track metrics for resources (such as EC2 instances) in your AWS account.
AWS Elasticache ElastiCache is a web service that makes it easy to set up, manage, and scale a distributed in-memory data store or cache environment in the cloud. It provides a high-performance, scalable, and cost-effective caching solution, while removing the complexity associated with deploying and managing a distributed cache environment. Redis and Memcached are popular, open-source, in-memory data stores. Although they are both easy to use and offer high performance, there are important differences to consider when choosing an engine. Memcached is designed for simplicity while Redis offers a rich set of features that make it effective for a wide range of use cases. Understand your requirements and what each engine offers to decide which solution better meets your needs
Difference between RDS and DynamoDB RDS is a SQL database service (that offers several database engine options), and DynamoDB is a NoSQL database option that only offers one NoSQL engine
High Availability High availability refers to the concept that something will be accessible when you try to access it. An object or web application is “highly available” when it is accessible a vast majority of the time.
Cost optimization, Automating, Elasticity Elasticity (think of a rubber band) defines a system that can easily (and cost-effectively) grow and shrink based on required demand.
Designing fault tolerant applications Fault tolerance describes the concept of a system (in our case a web application) to have failure in some of its components and still remain accessible (highly available). Fault tolerant web applications will have at least two web servers (in case one fails).
AWS AWS is defined as a cloud services provider. They provide hundreds of services of which compute and storage are included (not not limited to).
AWS s3 and AWS EBS Amazon S3 is a Object storage built to store and retrieve any amount of data from anywhere. Amazon Elastic Block Store is a Persistent block storage for Amazon EC2
AWS EC2 AWS EC2 can be used to host virtual servers on AWS.
Uploading an archive in AWS The AWS Console cannot be used to upload data onto Glacier. The console can only be used to create a Glacier vault which can be used to upload the data.
AWS Ec2 If you want a self-managed database, that means you want complete control over the database engine and the underlying infrastructure. In such a case you need to host the database on an EC2 Instance.
AWS tools AWS SDK can be plugged in for various programming languages. Using the SDK you can then call the required AWS services.
AWS EBS Volumes When you create an EBS volume in an Availability Zone, it is automatically replicated within that zone to prevent data loss due to failure of any single hardware component.
AWS read replicas You can reduce the load on your source DB Instance by routing read queries from your applications to the read replica. Read replicas allow you to elastically scale out beyond the capacity constraints of a single DB instance for read-heavy database workloads.
AWS EC2 Spot Instances When you think of cost effectiveness, you can either have to choose Spot or Reserved instances. Now when you have a regular processing job, the best is to use spot instances and since your application is designed recover gracefully from Amazon EC2 instance failures, then even if you lose the Spot instance , there is no issue because your application can recover.
AWS Elasticache Amazon ElastiCache is a web service that makes it easy to deploy, operate, and scale an in-memory data store or cache in the cloud. The service improves the performance of web applications by allowing you to retrieve information from fast, managed, in-memory data stores, instead of relying entirely on slower disk-based databases.
AWS Disaster Recovery The following figure shows a spectrum for the four scenarios, arranged by how quickly a system can be available to users after a DR event: Backup & Restore -> Pilot Light -> Warm Standby -> Multi SIte
AWS DynamoDB DynamoDB does not use/support other NoSQL database engines. You only have access to use DynamoDB’s built-in engine.
AWS Redshift Redshift is a database offering that is fully-managed and used for data warehousing and analytics, including compatibility with existing business intelligence tools.
AWS S3 Storage Classes S3 Standard Storage class has a rating of 99.999999999% durability (referred to as 11 nines) and 99.99% availability.
AWS storage-classes The Standard storage class should be used for files that you access on a daily or very frequent basis.
AWS SQS Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS) offers a reliable, highly-scalable hosted queue for storing messages as they travel between applications or microservices. It moves data between distributed application components and helps you decouple these components.
AWS Reserved Instances Reserved instances are the best choice for instances with continuous usage and offer a reduced cost because you purchase the instance for the entire year.Amazon EC2 Reserved Instances (RI) provide a significant discount (up to 75%) compared to On-Demand pricing and provide a capacity reservation when used in a specific Availability Zone.
AWS CloudFront Lambda@Edge lets you run Lambda functions to customize the content that CloudFront delivers, executing the functions in AWS locations closer to the viewer. Amazon CloudFront is a web service that speeds up distribution of your static and dynamic web content, such as .html, .css, .js, and image files, to your users. CloudFront delivers your content through a worldwide network of data centers called edge locations. When a user requests content that you’re serving with CloudFront, the user is routed to the edge location that provides the lowest latency (time delay), so that content is delivered with the best possible performance. CloudFront speeds up the distribution of your content by routing each user request through the AWS backbone network to the edge location that can best serve your content. Typically, this is a CloudFront edge server that provides the fastest delivery to the viewer. Using the AWS network dramatically reduces the number of networks that your users’ requests must pass through, which improves performance. Users get lower latency—the time it takes to load the first byte of the file—and higher data transfer rates. You also get increased reliability and availability because copies of your files (also known as objects) are now held (or cached) in multiple edge locations around the world.
AWS EC2 Instance info and details How to get information about Ec2 instance type?
What load balancing options does the Elastic Load Balancing service offer? Elastic Load Balancing offers two types of load balancers that both feature high availability, automatic scaling, and robust security. These include the Classic Load Balancer that routes traffic based on either application or network level information, and the Application Load Balancer that routes traffic based on advanced application level information that includes the content of the request.
How many instances can I run in Amazon EC2? You are limited to running up to a total of 20 On-Demand instances across the instance family, purchasing 20 Reserved Instances, and requesting Spot Instances per your dynamic Spot limit per region.
AWS Elasticache Redis, MemcacheD
CloudWatch CloudWatch is used to collect, view, and track metrics for resources (such as EC2 instances) in your AWS account.
Edge Locations With Lambda@Edge you can easily run your code across AWS locations globally, allowing you to respond to your end users at the lowest latency and allowing you to personalize content.
